Shostakovich: Complete String Quartets – Danel Quartet is the six cdset of Quatuor Danel with their 2022 live recording of all the Shostakovich String Quartets. It is their second recording of all the Shostakovich quartets. And this time the set is even supplemented with Two Pieces for String Quartet (Elegy, from Op.29 and Polka from Op.22) and Quartet Movement in E-flat major, the so called “Unfinished Quartet” that was rediscovered in 2003. This Quartet Movement must not be confused with a String Quartet No.16, which Shostakovich planned, but didn’t realize.
The live recordings were made at Mendelssohn-Saal in the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig in February and May 2022. Please note: it’s a live recording, but you don’t hear any coughing!
